Hello, and welcome. We try to Avoid trivia sections in articles. It sets a bad example to new users who want to add random pieces of useless tit bits, and often are copied and pasted from other sources. Please also remember to fully cite/source anything you add. The JPStalk to me 18:47, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, sorry... miscommunication. My above message was referring to Jaws The Revenge, because I've spent some time working on that. I'll look into the Die Hard article... The JPStalk to me 19:10, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, in regards to Jaws The Revenge I added the trivia section as the tidbit @ Caine is not "Critical Reaction." I'm not sure how one goes about referencing a well known event shown on live TV at the time (a live remote was set up so Caine could accept his Oscar from the location, which is what prompted Ebert to comment on it in the first place).

The Ebert reference is good enough for us. I'll rephrase it to make it more apparent that it belong sin that section... but please no trivia. It will never be a good article while it has such a section. The JPStalk to me 19:24, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Farscape

[edit]

The problem I've been having is my version of the series just numbers the episodes, so I can't tell if the second one is I, E. T. or Exodus of Genesis, because they were aired out of order. I'll look more closely at it and see if I can tell the difference. - Peregrine Fisher 19:40, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I, E.T. is the second episode, but was held back until the end of the first half of the first season (Sci Fi used to do split seasons on all their shows) apparently because Sci Fi thought it wasn't exciting/different enough. It was aired after PK Teck Girl, which is why I have a note on those episodes. Exodus from Genesis is the third episode. On all the DVD collections and when they show it in syndication, they now show I, E.T. after the premiere.RoyBatty42 19:58, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did the first 8 images. As far as finding more people, I don't know. I'll add images to the list of episodes page, that sometimes gets people excited and wanting to contribute. - Peregrine Fisher 20:22, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I put notices on the talk pages of the past contributors to the main List article. Wish I could remember the website that had a very comprehensive list of episode pop culture references and other trivia. RoyBatty42 20:29, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've caught up with images. I haven't watched the show, so I haven't done very many of the image captions. You may want to fix that, although it's not a big deal. One tip, it's standard to put an asterisk (*) before each external link; it creates little bullets. - Peregrine Fisher 21:15, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't watch the show, where do you get the images from? Are there alternatives? I do know about the (*) to bullet thing, just gets missed sometimes.
I would ask that you not delete things without comment. I spent 45 minutes last night researching the use of quotes in other TV episode articles and based my use of them on that, trying to find the right layout. It's a little frustrating to have effort like that removed with no discussion. RoyBatty42 23:34, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have the show, I just haven't watched it yet. Someday I plan on watching it. Sorry about the quotes. People here will remove quotes sections from TV episode pages, so I moved the quotes from Rhapsody in Blue (Farscape episode) to wikiquote, where they're OK. There's a link at the bottom right of the Rhapsody in Blue page. This way the quotes aren't eventually lost. Anyways, keep up the good work. I'll keep on the screenshots. - Peregrine Fisher 04:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, just remember that the first season is kinda slow, especially the first half. But once you get to Durka Returns, things start to take off. Damn, kinda hard to make a request I had seeing that you haven't seen the show - I was going to ask that you try to get more effects screen shots when you can and character/alien shots when its more appropriate. But if you haven't seen the show it would be hard for you to judge. So far, however, the shots you have used have been great (although for Through the Looking Glass the shot of Moya split into 4 would have been better) RoyBatty42 21:16, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do the screenshots now. - Peregrine Fisher 20:35, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did the first 16. I can't find the rest right now, but I'll find them and put them up in the next few days. - Peregrine Fisher 21:55, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Prodigy

[edit]

Please do not take my edit personally, I did not want to use "prodigy" because I thought it was much more subjective than "stars". However, I understand your concerns with my choice of wording so I will change it to "actors".- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 23:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that but referring to them as prodigies is equally illogical and has the added disadvantage of sounding like a promotion.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 01:17, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, will do. I'll try to get more screens up as soon as possible. I don't quite know what you mean by "non-English speaking/non-American info" for references however. Do you mean Australian pop culture references? If so I don't really know if I can help you on that, but I will add the section anyway. -- Grandpafootsoldier 19:09, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having a slight problem with my photo editing software at the moment. I'll try to get some more up later on tonight. -- Grandpafootsoldier 02:46, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I got Peacekeeeper Wars. I'll put up screens as soon as I can. Also, I'm not completely happy with every one of the screens I've put up so far. Input would be useful so if you see any you think could be improved let me know. -- Grandpafootsoldier 03:21, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Han shot first

[edit]

On what grounds is he removing the whole section. If it's on the grounds of "trivia", the very definition of trivia given on this site is "information that is interesting rather than important", the fact that Han shot first (which he did) has become a cultural phenomenon, is why it has an article. If i know him, he may well be preparing it to be merged. Contact me if anything else happens

Horror films

[edit]

Hi! Just today I noticed several (IMO) "non-horror" films with the WP Horror template, most remarkably Peter Weir's The Last Wave, about which I posted in the WP Horror talk. Yet, our editors just follow IMDb genres [1], [2], whereas AMG has it mostly right [3], [4]. The problem is most of our film editors don't think much of amg and follow imdb in their every whim. Suggestion: We let WP Horror know that they should go through their list with some critical eye and select only the films they consider real horror ones. Any better ideas welcome. Farscape synopses

Yeah, thanks. I figure the most important thing is to get them up there, then leave it to other fans to edit the synopses later.QuizzicalBee 22:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D'oh, I was on vacation in Thailand for the past few weeks and was unable to access Wikipedia. Looks like it's gone now. :( --Comthought 16:21, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it does seem that there are a few crusaders out there who believe it is their sworn life duty to rid Wikipedia of anything that they find questionable. What others think is clearly irrelevant. I understand that lack of notability may indeed exclude the article according to established Wikipedia rules, but in my mind The Daily Gamecock -- USC's wonderful (blah) college newspaper that I'm sure you recall, would also lack notability under the same reasoning. Yet that article continues to exist, and in fact, student newspapers have their own category when 95% of them would be worthless to Wikipedia when measuring notability. Hypocrisy, I say! Anyway, we have something in common: I was also Cinematic Arts chair. :P --Comthought 02:58, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well perhaps The Daily Gamecock has declined in quality since your day. The film schedule has changed significantly in the past few years due to low attendance (and a lowering budget). The Mon-Wed films were wiped because no one came and now it's Thurs-Sun, with a showing at 6pm and 9pm -- the same two movies are shown the entire weekend. They mostly do blockbusters now. --Comthought 01:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Farscape

[edit]

Saw that you were doing to some work on the synopsis of first season Farscape episodes. Always welcome, but the area that really needs attention are the later seasons, many don't have any last time I looked after creating them. Not sure how you came to the episodes, but there is a page for List of Farscape episodes if you wanted a jumping off point. RoyBatty42 10:55, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I've been doing the later seasons, but couldn't remember where I stopped, so I started at the beginning with the thought of editing what I've already done, but then got sidetracked by editing some of the earlier ones that I didn't do. I'll make my way to the later ones, shortly. The real question is, how long is too long for each synopsis? :-) QuizzicalBee 14:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing to keep an eye out for if you can: David Kemper's wikilinks. Seems there is a drummer named David Kemper. Hence, all the old entries on Farscape related pages that are presently David Kemper need to be replaced with David Kemper so it is article, which I had to create. RoyBatty42 22:00, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Will do, Roy. Also, you may have noticed I've been fiddling with the episode pages--I've added a "Notes" section and an "Unanswered Questions" section to each page (only 1st season so far). What do you think?QuizzicalBee 00:14, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I had seen the unanswered questions sections earlier and could have warned you off. Something like that falls under heading Wikipedia:No original research and it seems that someone has already noticed it and has been blanking it out. Sorry, I know how frustrating it is to watch material get dumped (I'm currently in a debate about something I put up for an article that a admin is calling copyright violation). The only way you could get something like that up, of course, is to find a site that also lists them. You can check at farscapeworld.com (which is actually run by a friend of mine), snurcher's guide or the like. But on the other hand, it's still debatable whether something like that is encyclopedic. PS - Going to the Scaper Con next November? RoyBatty42 17:30, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining it, Roy. Oh well. The ways of Wikipedia are mysterious to me. Also, I might be going to the Scaper Con. I haven't decided yet. It's tempting...QuizzicalBee 17:53, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! You can go to {{tl:Imdb title}}, which has a step by step explanation of how to use it. Solidarity

[edit]

Hey. Thanks for attempting to bring some sense to the spoiler debate - it's refreshing to see such optimism. Right now we need viable alternatives to the current spoiler policy, not just criticism of it, justified though it may be. I'm open to suggestions, and feel free to reply to any that other people make on my talk page.

In the meantime, here's a symbol. If you want to support the cause, put it on your user page or keep it on your talk page; if we get it on enough pages, it might just count for something. Please remove it if you don't want to show it. And if you've got a better picture, be my guest and use it. --Kizor 16:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Farscape Episode edit war

[edit]

Hey,

I've just come back from another two-month backpacking trip across Europe only to see the Farscape Episodes articles has degenerated into a war. It's a damn shame: I put a hell of a lot of work into the first season and was preparing to bring out the DVDs again for a second season re-edit.....but seeing the mess and edit-wars the episodes have now stagnated into, and being both annoyed and insulted by quite a few of the comments on there, I've decided to just throw up my hands and walk away. I understand their policies of linking in each article to something in the real-world, and to validate each of the articles, but arguments of "Wikipedia isn't Encyclopaedia Brittanica" and examples of other TV series "that haven't been reviewed yet", and other arguments for the keeping of the episode articles that have already been brought up and exhausted, haven't seem to have won over other users determined to scrap them. So, rather than just add another log into that blazing fire, I'm pulling out. Reluctantly, certainly, but yeah. External links lending credence to a fictional sci-fi series isn't as easy as some users like to think, and the strength of such external links doesn't exactly a worthy article make - to put it bluntly I don't agree with their redirection/deletion - but it seems pointless saying otherwise because they'll just do it otherwise. Sorry to step back. :( --lordstorm 10:03, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vic Morrow's Death and A Man Called Sledge

[edit]

It's kind of funny to imagine being decapitated by a helicopter blade as trivial...

When I wrote the sentences about it, though, I thought it would be an interesting sidelight for anyone seeing A Man Called Sledge since Vic Morrow wrote and directed the movie. But I certainly understand your thinking in removing it, of course. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skymasterson (talkcontribs) 05:22, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cameos

[edit]

I wonder how you'd refer to Alan Lee appearing as one of the Nine destined to become the Nazgul in The Fellowship of the Ring's prologue. He may not be famous to non-film fans/Tolkienites, but it's still a cameo. In any case, just don't delete info because you disagree with wording. ;) Alientraveller (talk) 21:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a difference between wording and definition. Look up the Wikipedia definition or, if you distrust it, grab a dictionary. Ironically, you used an example of true cameo of a non-actor famous person, Alan Lee.
But I don't expect any of this to have any effect. The article is unfortunately one of those that draws far, far too many fan-boys whose zealotry for the subject will dictate how they edit it. It's one of things that open up Wikipedia to ridicule and one of the reason I joined the exodus of folks who stopped contributing as much as we used to. The fact I just got this message should attest to that. I have a feeling the day is coming soon when Google will tweak their search engine so that Wikipedia entries stop being top returns and Wikipedia will go back to being an interesting idea used by hobbyists.
PS - to really pile on irony, I was only here because I was making a suggestion for a political entry that was little skimpy in the opening paragraph. Guess which one I used as an example of an article whose opening graph is out of control long....? RoyBatty42 (talk) 18:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(User was apparently deleting my responses to his first message, which I mistakenly thought were edit conflicts because he does have a busy page. Only when I looked at the history did I find these little gems of responses: you don't get far in life for calling a person who writes a great article a "fanboy" and don't care, still called me a fanboy So I left him this last response and this time included my own history comment: thicker skin will get you farther. And stop making the rest of us fanboys look like babies. Grow a pair, fer chrissakes )

One, sorry if I made the mistake that you were truly trying to communicate. I actually thought I had waited too long to post my reply and it was lost in an edit conflict. It was only when I checked the history that I saw you had deleted and left your little message in the history note.

First off, you're not going to get too far in life with super thin skin that looks for insults behind every disagreement.

Second, if you weren't having the vapors over it apparently, you would have seen I didn't call you a fan boy. I had no idea who you were. However, now that I've looked at your history and seen how you've responded to this, trust me...

Third, you are in fact a colossal fan boy and must have issues with it. You couldn't even let the message sit on your talk page for 30 seconds. And since when did "fanboy" become such a shameful thing to be? I just have a problem when they edit, because they have a conflict of interest and it usually shows. I myself, if the name didn't already tip you off, am something of a fanboy (otherwise, why is there a lightsaber on top of my telly?). And a few friends are colossal fanboys. Show some pride, dude.

Forth, thanks for giving me a great chuckle this morning. This message will semi-self erase in five, four, three... RoyBatty42 (talk) 19:27, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
